Bet Guvrin. A 6-9 foot wide hole would be dug through the limestone at ground level. When they reached the desired chalk layer, they would quarry it up through the top. It resulted in a bell-shaped chamber. This one is called the "Flower Cave". Nowadays, they have a descending path that leads to a side entrance, so we didn't get to climb down with a rope like they did in 300 BC! I found out later that this furniture was being set up for a Bat Mitzvah (Bar Mitzvah for a girl) and not for lazy tourists!
